Completed in 2004, and home to the Siebel School of Computing and Data Science, the Thomas M. Siebel Center for Computer Science is the first "computing habitat” incorporating intelligent technology that anticipates and responds to human activity. The more than 225,000 square foot building uses computer-controlled locks, proximity sensors and cameras to track room activity.

You will also find another Siebel building on campus - the Siebel Center for Design. Located on the southern part of campus near Huff Hall, The Siebel Center for Design creates space for collaboration across disciplines and departments.

Of Interest Inside

The museum cases in the first-floor atrium display components of ILLIAC 1 and ILLIAC 2, a Plato Terminal, and the “2001 Space Odyssey” celebration of HAL’s birthday. All speak to our deep tradition of innovation at Illinois and to the impact computing at Illinois has had and continues to have on the world.

Just inside the Matthew Street entrance is an etching of Tom Siebel, graduate of the department (MS ’85) and the lead supporter of CS facilities, faculty positions and scholarships. The Siebel School for Computing and Data Science was formed in 2024. Siebel was an early employee of Oracle, the founder of Siebel Systems and is the founder and CEO of c3.ai.
