William L. Everitt Laboratory
02. William L. Everitt Laboratory
The Department of Bioengineering is housed in Everitt Laboratory, named for William L. Everitt, a noted scientist, educator, inventor, author and engineering visionary. Everitt Laboratory hosts cutting-edge technology and research spaces, including the Jump Simulation Center, the Cell and Tissue Engineering Lab, the Biomedical Instrumentation Lab and more.
Following a $55 million renovation in 2018, the new Everitt Laboratory now serves as the centralized hub for the department of bioengineering, where the next generation of healthcare innovators and leaders conduct research to help improve the human condition. The lab also serves as the conduit for multidisciplinary research collaborations promising to transform medicine.
Side Trip: Laboratory for Optical Physics and Engineering
Across Wright Street from the Everitt Lab is the Laboratory for Optical Physics and Engineering (LOPE). While you can’t see LOPE from Everitt Lab, we promise, it is there! LOPE has a long history of developing laser-based spectroscopic techniques and new laser light sources, most notably in the gas phase.
A wide variety of laser sources are available in the lab enabling the probing of microscopic interactions including femtosecond lasers, high-energy nanosecond lasers and wavelength-tunable sources (dye lasers and OPOs).
LOPE is also the home to our 3D printer.
