As the headquarters of Mechanical Science and Engineering (MechSE), the Lu MEB, named in recognition of a generous gift from Sidney Lu (BS '81 ME), revolutionized its flexible student lab space for mechatronics, design and manufacturing; motion and controls; heat transfer and senior capstone design. Those student lab areas are integrated with the new MakerWorks space that brings together the Jackson Innovation Studio, a wood shop and a machine shop featuring a vast set of CNC machine tools, woodworking tools, 3D printers, laser cutters, waterjets and thousands of square feet of makerspace.

Of Interest Inside

The only living green wall on the Illinois campus is located in the Lu MEB, demonstrating the college’s commitment to prioritize biophilic design and sustainability. In addition to the living green wall, the LEED Gold certified building integrates photovoltaic panels (one of the only installations of this scale nationally) and plant-based flooring.
