The Coordinated Science Lab (CSL) recently celebrated its 70th anniversary. When founded in 1951, and the building constructed in 1952, the CSL mission was to conduct classified military research in response to the Korean War. The CSL was one of only a dozen institutions in the country to receive a Joint Services Electronics Program (JSEP) grant. Sponsored by the Army, Navy and Airforce, JSEP provided significant funding for the CSL through the late 1990s.

Today the CSL is a premier, multidisciplinary research laboratory focusing on information technology at the crossroads of circuits, computing, control and communications.
