Meet Marie-Christine Brunet
Assistant Dean and Director of Academic Affairs
Q What did you learn as a woman in engineering that has helped you in and out of your professional role?
I learned to stand for myself, to be vocal, to rely on my network of women, and to be a support for all women in engineering. In the many blessed years of teaching and mentoring in my career, I tried to empower women in engineering in any way possible.
Q Do you think the landscape of women in STEM fields has changed? How so? Where do you see it going in the future?
There are a lot more organizations to support women than when I was studying. Diversity is more recognized, and adds value to many fields, especially in engineering. Nowadays, it is easier to built a network for support. I envision we will reach a 50/50 ratio in engineering fields.
Q Who inspires you as a woman in engineering?
My Phd Advisor was an amazing woman. She was strong and always helped me when I had doubts. Her team of graduate students was very diverse, and that experience shaped my path.
Q What advice do you have for women in who are starting their journey in engineering?
Make sure to connect with peers, and do not hesitate to talk to women in the field. You never know who will be your next mentor, someone you can talk to about anything.
