Academic Advising

Engineering Undeclared (EU) advisors are your compass, mentor, and biggest supporter. They know Grainger Engineering programs inside and out, and they’ll help you plan an academic path that fits your unique engineering interests.

What Can My EU Advisor Help Me With?

  • Think through your career goals.
  • Narrow down a major based on your interests.
  • Plan a course schedule and assist with class registration.
  • Find community on campus.
  • Build study skills.
  • Manage academic challenges like difficult courses and test anxiety.
  • Set your timeline for graduation.

You’ll meet with a specialized EU Academic Advisor at least once per semester, but you’re encouraged to connect with them more often than that. We believe in flexibility and personal connection, so you're not locked into a single advisor. Some students find their perfect advising match and stick with them. Others visit different advisors to gain fresh perspectives. You can choose the approach that feels right for you.

Connect With Your Engineering Undeclared Advisor

As an EU student, you’ll meet with an EU Academic Advisor at least once per semester. These dedicated and knowledgeable guides will assist you with course planning, setting academic goals, connecting to resources, declaring a major and finding community at Grainger Engineering.

The Engineering Undeclared program practices an open advising model, so you can choose to meet with any advisor you wish. You don’t have to stick with just one, unless you want to.

EU advisors are available through two flexible meeting options:

  1. Express Advising
Express advising allows you to meet with an EU Advisor virtually or in-person, no appointment needed. It’s offered Monday through Friday from 1-4 p.m. Visit the college advising page to see when individual advisors are available for virtual or face-to-face meetings.
  2. Scheduled Appointments
Book a focused, 30-minute session tailored to your needs. Specify your preferred meeting format (virtual or in-person) in your appointment notes.
    • In-person meetings: Check in at the Grainger Library East Wing, 4th floor front desk
    • Virtual consultations: Join via the Zoom link provided in your confirmation email

Please note: some advisors only hold in-person appointments on certain days. Please check your advisor’s scheduling page to see when they hold in-person vs. virtual appointments and, if both are available, indicate your modality preference in the appointment notes.

Departmental Advising

Engineering Undeclared students are encouraged to meet with academic advisors in their major(s) of interest. Each department has its own office for undergraduate advising. Reach out to them to gain additional insight into the major and to learn about other exploration opportunities.
