The University of Illinois College of Engineering will be honoring educators and researchers at the 55th Annual College Faculty Awards Ceremony at 6 pm on Monday, April 29 at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications auditorium.

The following individuals will be honored at the event:
Dean’s Award for Excellence in Research
These awards were established to honor faculty for outstanding research. Six assistant professors are chosen by their peers based on who has conducted the most outstanding research during the last academic year. In addition, four associate professors are chosen for their outstanding research over the past five academic years.

Collins Award for Innovative Teaching
This award is in honor of W. Leighton Collins, who was a faculty member in the College of Engineering from 1929 to 1965. Professor Collins was also the former executive director of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) and he helped to shape engineering instruction in the United States. This award is given to a faculty member in recognition of outstanding development or use of new and innovative teaching methods.

Everitt Award for Teaching Excellence
Created in 1968 in honor of Dean William L. Everitt, this award recognizes a faculty member for outstanding undergraduate teaching. Faculty are nominated for this award because they stand out and are remembered with respect, affection, and admiration long after the students leave campus. The recipient of this award is determined
via a survey of undergraduate students in the College of Engineering.

Rose Award for Teaching Excellence
This award was established by an anonymous alumnus to recognize good teaching and is intended to foster and reward excellence in undergraduate teaching across the College of Engineering. The recipients of this award are teachers who excel at motivating undergraduate students to learn and to appreciate engineering.

College of Engineering Teaching Excellence Award
This award was established by an anonymous alumnus and his wife in appreciation for the excellent teaching he received during his time at Illinois. This award is intended to motivate faculty to increase the educational impact they make on their students and to improve the excellence of teaching across the College of Engineering. The departments submit nominations for this award, and the top three faculty members are then nominated for the Campus Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching. In addition to being nominated for the Campus Award, the top-ranked nominee is selected for the College of Engineering Teaching Excellence Award.

Tau Beta Pi Daniel C. Drucker Eminent Faculty Award
Daniel C. Drucker, dean of the college from 1968 to 1984 and an internationally recognized researcher in the field of applied mechanics and materials, personally supported many programs of Tau Beta Pi, the national engineering honor society. This award is given to a faculty member who has received national or international acclaim for dedication to academic excellence through teaching and research, and who has made exemplary contributions to the understanding of their field.
