A total of 32 students from across the Midwest have earned a Chinese government award for outstanding self-financed students studying abroad. Of those 32, seven hail from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and five from the College of Engineering.

A total of 32 students from across the Midwest have earned a Chinese government award for outstanding self-financed students studying abroad. Of those 32, seven hail from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and five from the College of Engineering.
Since 2003, The China Scholarship Council, with the approval of China’s Ministry of Education, has awarded students who excel academically and encouraging them to work in China or serve the country in various ways.
The honorees from Illinois are Qian Li, Recreation, Sports and Tourism; Yang Qu, Psychology; Kewen Han, Mechanical Science and Engineering; Ke Yang and Liana Ma, Materials Science Engineering; Runyu Liu, Electrical Science and Engineering; and Chen Liao, Bioengineering.
