Engineering at Illinois alumnus Shahid Khan (BS 1971, Industrial Engineering), owner of the NFL Jacksonville Jaguars, was profiled on the CBS News program 60 Minutes on Sunday, Oct. 28. Shahid KhanKhan, president of Urbana-based Flex-N-Gate, acquired the NFL franchise in December 2011, making him part of a very exclusive fraternity of professional team owners. Since then, he has worked hard to win over fans and build a winning culture.
60 Minutes contributor Byron Pitts told the story of the Pakistan-born immigrant and his journey to the top of the American business world. It included a visit to Khan's mother and brother in his old neighborhood in Lahore, Pakistan, plus several scenes from the University of Illinois campus. (Watch the original 60 Minutes segment.)
Last August, the CBS film crew also came to Champaign-Urbana to tape potential segments on the philanthropic projects supported by Shahid Khan and his wife Ann. These include academic programs in College of Engineering, the College of Business, the College of Applied Health Sciences, athletic programs at the Atkins Tennis Center, as well as projects at the Champaign Public Library, and other local organizations.
On September 24 his image and story were featured in Forbes magazine. _______________________
