Predrag S. Hrnjak, a research professor in the Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering (MechSE), was recently awarded the Institute of Refrigeration J&E Hall Gold Medal for the most noteworthy contribution to the advancement of refrigeration.
Hrnjak is a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR), and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). He is also an ASHRAE Fellow.
The Institute of Refrigeration (IOR) was founded in 1899 as the Cold Storage and Ice Association, and was the first national society of mechanical refrigeration in the world; the present name of the Institute of Refrigeration was adopted in 1944. It is an independent organization run by refrigeration and air conditioning professionals to promote the technical advancement of refrigeration in all its applications, to promote communication between professionals and an exchange of their expertise and views, and to encourage invention and research in all matters relating to the science and practice of refrigeration.
The IOR’s J&E Hall Gold Medal is a world-recognized award for an individual’s contribution to the development of refrigeration and air conditioning technology.
