The Illini Pullers, a student organization in the Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering, will be hosting an exhibition ¼-scale tractor pull at the upcoming Farm Progress Show in Decatur, Illinois.
The exhibition will be held on Tuesday, August 30, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The exhibition will take place in the Ride ‘n Drive area located in the south end of Progress City.
The Pullers will demonstrate several ¼-scale tractors they have used in competition at the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) ¼-Scale Tractor International Student Design Competition. Tractors included are The Chief’s Vendetta (2009) and The Chief’s Tradition (2010), both champions in the ASABE competition, as well as this year’s tractor, The Relentless Chief. Teams from Iowa State University, Purdue University and Southern Illinois University will also participate in the event.
“Participating in the Farm Progress Show gives us the ability to interact face-to-face with the people that support us,” said A.J. Metzler, a senior in engineering mechanics and the chassis chairman for The Relentless Chief. “Not only do we get to pull, which is always fun, we also get to practice speaking about what we do and why it’s important to be involved in an activity like Illini Pullers. The Farm Progress Show is a great place to network with people that can donate time, materials and knowledge to our ever-evolving organization.”
Tickets for admission to the Farm Progress Show are $12 for adults and $8 for students aged 13-17. Children 12 and under are admitted free. Directions to the Farm Progress Show can be found at http://farmprogressshow.com.
The Pullers will also participate in an exhibition pull to be held that evening at the Great Lakes Hybrids Shootout Truck & Tractor Pull, sponsored by the Illinois Tractor Pull Association. The exhibition will take place at 7 p.m. at the Macon County Fairgrounds in Decatur.
