Tony Leggett, UI physics professor and Nobel Laureate enjoys a chat with a future scientist at last year's Market on the Square.
“Last year we had a table at the farmer’s market as part of the physics department’s ongoing efforts to make science accessible to the general public and to get kids excited about science,” said Dr. Inga Karliner, one of the event organizers.
“It is not often that you can chat with a world-class scientist or a Nobel Laureate. Many people stopped by our table to ask a question, especially children, so we decided to expand the effort this year and include a variety of faculty members and volunteers from our local science community.”
This year’s Science at the Market schedule includes:
Aug. 27 & Sept. 3 – Nanotechnology, University of Illinois
Sept. 10 – Natural Sciences, Parkland College
Sept. 17 – Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (GEEB), University of Illinois
Sept. 24 & Oct. 8 – Department of Physics, University of Illinois
Oct. 29 – Astronomy Club & Parkland College
