Computer science students Hyun Duk Cho and Jing Zou have been honored with a Jump Trading Scholars award recently established in computer science at Illinois.
These two accomplished students are currently pursuing a five year BS/MS degrees and will join the inaugural class of Jump Trading Scholars. They start what will undoubtedly be a prestigious group for years to come and will gain real-world experience with Jump Trading. Jump Scholars are selected for their excellence in one of several fields of computer science critical to the emerging field of algorithmic trading.
”The Jump Trading Scholars program recognizes computer science students who have demonstrated not only academic excellence, but their future promise for innovation in the emerging space of algorithmic trading,” said Rob A. Rutenbar, department head and Abel Bliss Professor of Engineering. “It’s an exciting opportunity for our students to stretch the boundaries of machine learning, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing.”
Excited for the advances in the field of AI, Hyun Duk Cho intends on pursuing a PhD and contributing what we can to the ever-changing field. His current research on the use of Li Dar data to classify different landscape usage utilizes real-time machine learning and statistical inference by observing important properties of the object being classified.
“I find research to be similar to proving a mathematical formula, something I indulge in from time to time, through the use to trial and error and logic,” Hyun Duk Cho said. His research in machine learning and also data mining will be helpful to high frequency trading companies, like Jump Trading, in the future.
Jing Zou’s career goal is to hold a technical position in either financial engineering or algorithmic trading. Initially inspired towards computer science, her interests took a turn towards the business technical field during an internship with State Farm Research and Development Center. Although she has plans to fulfill his personal curiosity in AI, machine robotics, and algorithms, she first plans to fulfill his class “wish list” of learning more about data mining and machine learning. Jing Zou’s solid knowledge base will allow her to walk into the field of financial engineering and make a definite impact.
“Jump Trading is extremely excited to be partnering with the Department of Computer Science at Illinois, and we’d like to recognize Hyun Duk and Jing for their academic accomplishments and passion for computer science,” said Matt Schrecengost, chief operating officer for Jump Trading. “We look forward to cultivating lasting relationships with Hyun Duk and Jing and hope to do the same with future Jump Trading Scholars.”
About the Jump Trading Scholars
Jump Trading is a globally-positioned financial technology firm on the cutting edge of algorithmic trading. With offices in Chicago and London, Jump Trading trades across all major asset classes in the Americas, Europe and Asia. The first class of Jump Trading Scholars will receive a full scholarship and fellowship for the 4th and 5th years of study and graduate with an MS through the 5 year BS/MS program.
The Jump Trading Scholars will also get to apply their knowledge and expand their interest through real-world experience by working with the Jump technology team on core business challenges in system latency, data mining, AI, algorithms, and much more.
