As the academic year comes to a close, the College of Engineering honored a number of outstanding students, faculty, and distinguished alumni at its annual Student & Alumni Honor Awards Convocation and College Faculty Awards.

As the academic year comes to a close, the College of Engineering honored a number of outstanding students, faculty, and distinguished alumni at its annual Student & Alumni Honor Awards Convocation and College Faculty Awards.

On Friday, April 30, the student and alumni honorees gathered at the Alice Campbell Alumni Center for a luncheon and awards ceremony. Following opening remarks by Dean Ilesanmi Adesida, Charles L. Tucker III, associate dean for undergraduate programs recognized students who received College of Engineering Scholarships and those who earned Bronze Tablet Recognition. For contributions to multicarrier communications and high-speed digital subscriber line technology.

James Robert Harris

For contributions to the development, improvement, and implementation of modern structural codes and standards, and as a principal in the design and restoration of many signature buildings.

Robert Earl Miller (BS, 1954, Aeronautical Engineering, MS, 1955, Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, PhD, 1959, Theoretical and Applied Mechanics)
Professor Emeritus of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
For distinguished contributions to the teaching of mechanics and for the inspiration and guidance he gave undergraduate and graduate students for more than four decades.

For outstanding original research contributions to our understanding of atomic motion in solids and the effects of high pressure on the properties of matter, and for his leadership in promoting science careers for women and members of underrepresented groups.

Intel Fellow and Director of Innovation Technology Modules, Intel Corporation, Hillsboro, OR (Retired)
For outstanding technical innovations in manufacturing processes for the production of microprocessors.
