Illinois alumnus John Houbolt: Overlooked space race contributor

Virginia Pilot (April 2) -- As we prepare to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first lunar landing, another man's role is worthy of mention. At the Langley Research Center in Hampton, a talented and tenacious engineer, Dr. John C. Houbolt, embarked on a quest to convince NASA how to get to the moon and back. Were it not for his efforts, it's unlikely Kennedy's goal would have been met.
