HPC Wire -- (Sept. 28) – Using supercomputers to model the atom-by-atom interactions of molecules in a nanopore system under an electric field, Aleksei Aksimentiev and James Wilson of the U. of I. physics department found a surprising amount of water compression at the nanoscale. The discovery could help advance medical diagnostics through creation of nanoscale systems that can detect, identify and sort biomolecules. Blue Waters at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at Illinois was among the supercomputers used in the study.
