ZDNet (July 6) -- The use of fans and liquid cooling to keep electronic devices cool enough to operate may one day disappear, thanks to a crystal invented to replace these systems. According to research co-written by U. of I. materials science and engineering professor David Cahill, crystals tailored for optimal thermal conductivity have the potential to replace less-effective cooling methods.
