Freeport (IL) Journal-Standard (June 20) reports on a “science, technology, engineering and math initiative started by female engineering students at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign” called MakerGirl that is introducing STEM careers to young girls. The group recently put on a 3-D printer workshop in Pearl City, Illinois and has plans to visit 19 states this summer to promote young women in these male-dominated fields.
