CEE 598 GFO - Generalized FEM

Course Description
This course covers theory and applications of Generalized/eXtended Finite Element Methods: high-order approximations, conditioning control, verification and validation, implementation in research and commercial software, solution of 2-D and 3-D fracture mechanics problems, problems with weak discontinuities, and multiscale problems. Students will gain hands-on experience with a 3D Generalized FEM software package used to explore and apply the method to representative example problems.

Prerequisites
Undergraduate degree and an introductory finite element method course (CEE 570, AE 420, ME 471, or equivalent), or approval of the instructor.
