- In my thesis, we show several techniques that improve elastic resource provisioning for distributed systems. We discuss how these techniques help systems to adapt to environmental constraints including workload specification, user expectations and available resources. In particular, we discuss how we improve elastic resource provisioning from the following perspectives: i). on-demand job scale-out and scale-in ii). dynamic job reconfiguration supporting various types of user expectations, iii). data placement and replication strategy in response to skewed popularity access pattern, and iv).data-driven, fine-grained operator scheduling that supports performance targets without pipeline recon-figuration. Further, we discuss how our future directions can broaden our spectrum in terms of elastic resource provisioning.
