Wired (June 29) -- Four academic researchers, including Karrie Karahalios, a professor of computer science at Illinois, who specialize in uncovering algorithmic discrimination against users on websites, have filed a lawsuit against the Justice Department. The researchers say that a decades-old federal anti-hacking statute is preventing them from doing work to detect discrimination.
