In 1948 Mr. Shepherd joined Geophysical Services, Inc. The following year the company became Texas Instruments, Inc. He rose from assistant chief engineer in 1952 to president in 1967. Through research and development under his direction, Texas Instruments became a pioneer and leader in transistor mass production that opened the door to the still expanding universe of microminiature and integrated circuitry. His leadership, foresight, and courage are given much of the credit for Texas Instruments, Inc. having become one of the world's leading producers of solid state equipment.

Among his many activities, Mr. Shepherd is chairman of the board of Southern Methodist University Foundation for Science and Engineering, a member of the Board of Trustees of Southern Methodist University, and a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
