Armin Elmendorf

After receiving a bachelor's degree from Illinois, Mr. Elmendorf became an instructor in mechanics at the University of Wisconsin, where he received a master's degree in mechanical engineering in 1917. From 1917 to 1922 he was a research engineer for the Haskelite Manufacturing Company, and from 1923 to 1925, he was a consulting engineer for Vickers, Ltd. For the next fifteen years he was a consulting engineer for Celotex Corporation, and in 1940 founded his own research laboratory. During World War II he was a consultant to the War Production Board.
It has been said that Mr. Elmendorf has probably contributed more significant technical ideas and developments to the wood products industry than has any other person. For his achievements, he has received citations from the National Association of Manufacturers and the University of Wisconsin. He is a member of the Forest Products Research and of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (formerly American Society of Tool and Manufacturing Engineers).
