Sanjay Srivastava is the chairman and CEO of Vocareum, a platform built to deliver virtual labs for higher education. Vocareum has been deployed at over 500 universities across the United States and around the world. He is also chairman of SKS Capital, an investment group based in Los Altos Hills, California, which supports early stage ventures in education.
Prior to his leadership position at Vocareum, Srivastava was the lead investor and executive chairman of NVELO, Inc., a storage software company that was later acquired by Samsung in 2012. He was also the primary investor and advisor in ShadowMaps, a UC Santa Barbara spin-off, which was acquired by Uber in 2016.
In 1995, he co-founded Denali Software, Inc., a company that specialized in electronic design automation software, intellectual property, and software for system-on-chip (SoC) design. As CEO of Denali, he bootstrapped the company to a $315 million acquisition by Cadence Design Systems, Inc., in 2010. After the acquisition he became senior vice president of research and development at Cadence, overseeing the SoC Realization group.
His ongoing commitment to education has included various board memberships and advisory positions to non-profit and for-profit organizations. He is currently an investor and board member of Lifelaunchr, a for-profit company launched to provide college counseling services, and a board member of Pratham, a non-profit that provides quality education to the underprivileged children in India.
Srivastava was formerly a board member at Foundation for Excellence, a non-profit whose focus is to provide funds for higher education to students in India who are academically gifted and from very low-income families. He was also a trustee of University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s Faculty Entrepreneurial Fellowship program. Financially backed by alumni, the program gives faculty time and money to push their technology from the lab to commercialization, relieving them of their classroom duties to focus on the final stages of research. Additionally, the Srivastava Senior Design Lab in the Electrical and Computer Engineering building on the Illinois campus bears his name due to his generous support and contribution towards to the space.
