As president of the University of Missouri System as well as chancellor of the flagship University of Missouri, Mun Y. Choi has worked tirelessly with the university community, alumni, legislators and Missourians to transform the perception and value of public higher education.

In 2024, under Choi’s leadership, the University of Missouri system achieved the highest ever graduation and retention rates, research expenditures and state appropriations. 

Choi came to Missouri in 2017 from the University of Connecticut, where he served as provost and executive vice president (2012-2017) and earlier as dean of engineering (2008-2012). His 30-year career in higher education also includes serving eight years as a department head at Drexel University and six years as an assistant and associate professor at the University of Illinois Chicago.

His research areas include heat transfer, combustion, emissions control and laser diagnostics. He is a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
