Alp Aktuna

Alp Aktuna, a senior in Nuclear, Plasma, and Radiological Engineering, has always had a strong desire to learn more than just STEM during his college career. Alp has been able to balance his engineering education and put an emphasis on fine arts and cultural studies while still excelling in his engineering work.    

Alp’s desire to learn about a wide array of subjects led him to a study abroad in Stockholm, Sweden. While abroad, Alp worked in an international lab on microelectronics where he was able to learn from a multicultural and multidisciplinary team.  

On campus, Alp has been heavily involved in activities that have fed his desire to have a well-rounded education. He is currently the Director of the Engineering Information Bureau in Engineering Council, a Chancellor’s Scholar in the Campus Honors Program, a member of the campus chapter of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and was a member of the Turkish Students Association. 

Access to these interdisciplinary experiences was one of the main reasons Alp chose to pursue his education with The Grainger College of Engineering. He wanted access to a high-quality education and a strong community of engineers trying to change the world, in addition to a multitude of different opportunities to study the fine arts and culture. 

As an undergraduate, Alp has already had a wealth of industry and research related experiences. He currently participates as a researcher in the Center for Plasma-Material Interactions, has worked as a Performance Integration/Systems Engineering Intern at ASML, and is a member of the KTH Microelectronics Manufacturing Research Group. 

Alp has earned multiple scholarships and awards in addition to the Lisle Abbott-Rose Scholarship. He has earned an IPENG scholarship, a Nuclear, Plasma, and Radiological Engineering Departmental Scholarship, and a Campus Honors Program Scholarship.  

After graduation, Alp hopes to stay in semiconductor and chip design. He then hopes to move to industrial design or design management to satisfy his passion for aesthetics, ergonomics, and functionality.
