Carson Osmond

Carson Osmond, a junior in Mechanical Engineering, grew up working on joint engineering projects with his dad and eventually became interested in learning for himself how machines function. Carson’s passion for hands-on problem solving led him to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He chose to study at The Grainger College of Engineering  and enrolled in the Parkland Engineering Pathways Program to stay close to home. 

On campus, Carson is involved with the Illinois Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Baja Team, and Illini Cycling. He also plays ultimate frisbee in a recreational league.  

Carson is a James Scholar, an Engineering Pathways Chevron Scholar, a Sigma Alpha Epsilon Baja Drivetrain Sub-team member, a Big Ring Cycling member, and a long-time junior high small group leader at First Christian Church in Champaign.   

Carson earned the Design for Manufacturability Best Mini Projects Award, was a recipient for the Engineering Pathways Merit Scholarship the and Jayne Ryoti Mathematics Scholarship. He is also a 2X Champaign County Extension Education Foundation 4-H Scholarship recipient.   

Carson feels honored by this prestigious award that recognizes the time and diligence he has invested in both his studies and extracurricular activities. His goals go beyond academic excellence to the successful practice of complex engineering applications.    

Carson Osmond is working with the University of Illinois GearUP summer transfer program to develop course materials, lead study groups, and hold office hours for several technical courses this summer. His future goal is to work in research and development in the automotive or heavy machinery industry.
