Biography

James Pawlikowski is a practicing structural engineer, with 27 years of experience. He is currently a Principal at Datum Engineers, and leads their Chicago office. Prior to Datum, he spent 25 years at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), serving as an Associate Director / Senior Structural Engineer, and was one of the leaders of SOM’s Chicago office. At SOM, he had lead roles in significant projects in the U.S. and around the world, including the world’s tallest building Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the new NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Europe’s tallest residential building OKO Tower in Moscow, and the new Campus Instructional Facility at UIUC. He has a masters degree in architecture and structural engineering, and is part of the faculty in the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign's School of Architecture and Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He has been involved in both programs for over 20 years, giving guest lectures, assisting with classes and serving on the CEE External Advisory Committee. He currently teaches Design of Tall Buildings, Foundations and Soil Mechanics, and Design of Structural Systems.
