First-year engineering students who are passionate about becoming entrepreneurs, innovative product designers, and technical developers are especially encouraged to apply for the College of Engineering's first certificate program--the iFoundry Innovation Certificate (IC).

The Illinois Foundry for Innovation in Engineering Education (iFoundry)--a cross-disciplinary curriculum incubator in the College of Engineering--has designed a small set of special courses, coaching opportunities, and community that will help IC students develop their creative and innovative capabilities, and be successful in applying their engineering knowledge and talents to society in their lives as engineers and engaged citizens. Applications from all first-year students are accepted now through November 26, 2012. Students may learn more or apply online at ifoundry.illinois.edu.

"We expect that the IC will open doors for the engineering students who pursue this  program," explained iFoundry Associate Director Karen Hyman. "Participating in the program will help put students head and shoulders above their peers in terms of experience, connections with industry, and preparation for employment or creating a start-up company after graduation.

"From their first year through the senior year, students will have the opportunity to receive personal and group coaching from faculty and staff, to share their work and ideas with the best innovators, and be involved extensively with big-name companies in industry such as AMD, Caterpillar, Hewlett-Packard, Procter & Gamble and more," Hyman added.

Founded in 2008 by Illinois faculty leaders David Goldberg and Andreas Cangellaris, iFoundry is dedicated to transforming the education and experience of our students in ways that align with the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.
