Fred Sheaff Wells

[title]
To Fred Sheaff Wells for his successful and distinguished career in the materials handling industry, for the fostering of young engineers in the industry, and for his untiring civic activities.

Vice President, Stephens Adamson Manufacturing Company, Aurora, Illinois

  • BS, Mechanical Engineering, 1915

Mr. Wells started as a contract sales engineer with the Stephens Adamson Manufacturing Company three months after receiving his bachelor's degree. During World War I he served in the armed forces in France in the United States Army Engineer Corps, and then returned to the Stephens Adamson Manufacturing Company to assume increasing responsibilities. He has played a pioneering role in the development of large-scale bulk handling equipment. These include heavy-duty ore feeders for the mining industry, the bulk handling of raw sugar, and numerous coal handling systems for large power plants.

He has been instrumental in bringing the material handling field to the universities. Mr. Wells also has an outstanding record of civic activities. It is not possible to include the list of organizations of which he has been either chairman, president, or vice president; all of these activities have contributed greatly to the communities in which he has lived.

Current as of 1968.
