Mr. Quade is known in many parts of the world for his distinctive leadership as a consultant in the field of civil engineering. His firm has performed work in thirty states, the Canal Zone, Canada, South America, the Caribbean, India, and Turkey, as well as other foreign assignments. The firm, which has a number of branch offices, employs over 325 professional engineers and as many as 600 employees. His firm is currently involved in planning the English Channel crossing and in completing the design of the suspension bridge to be built to span the east passage of Narragansett Bay between Newport and Jamestown, Rhode Island.

Mr. Quade supervised the design of the first underwater tunnel with portals on artificial islands, the four-mile Hampton Road crossing with a 7,479-foot tunnel. Other unique achievements of Mr. Quade include the first use of roller bearings on a vertical lift bridge, the first use of lightweight open dredge caissons, employment of prestressed concrete on a large scale, and the design of the first hardened military construction project.
