George Paulikas has been a major contributor to our understanding of the near-Earth space plasma environment. He has been with The Aerospace Corporation since obtaining his doctoral degree in 1961 and has contributed extensively to this nation’s science and defense space programs. As a principal investigator and director of the Space Sciences Laboratory, he over saw many of the satellite instrumentation experiments launched under the auspices of the U.S. Air Force. In administrative positions, he instigated a significant restructuring of the corporate funding for research equipment and facilities, was responsible for all studies of advanced space systems planning and technology, and led the development and flight operation of special-purpose space systems. His most outstanding characteristics as a technical executive has been the clarity of his vision for future program opportunities and his ability to focus enthusiasm and corporate technical resources on needs of highest priority. A member of several scientific organizations, he received the Trustees’ Distinguished Achievement Award from Aerospace Corporation in 1980, the U.S. Air Force Meritorious Civilian Service Award in 1981, and the U.S. Air Force Space Division Excellence Award in 1984.
