Amber Hunter

Amber Hunter, a freshman in nuclear, plasma, and radiological engineering, chose The Grainger College of Engineering for the wealth of opportunities available to undergraduate students. 

She is a member of a multitude of engineering organizations including The American Nuclear Society, Women in Nuclear Student Chapter, and Women in Engineering where she is a Leadership Scholar. She also volunteers at Crisis Nursery in Urbana, which is an organization dedicated to providing safe childcare services for families experiencing crisis. Additionally, Amber sings in the choir at St. John’s Catholic Newman Center and is a Lead Emergency Medical Technician and Evaluating Assistant for Illini Emergency Medical Services.  

Amber researches for professor Angela Di Fulvio's Nuclear Measurement Laboratory, where she is currently working on a neutron detection project for medical and security applications.  

This work has inspired her pursue a career in radiological science research after she finishes her undergraduate degree. Amber firnds the Andrea J. Culumber award to be valuable because it will help open the door for her to pursue a graduate degree in the future.  

Amber hopes that her involvement will help culminate her dream job of working in a hospital researching radiological treatments for cancer.
