The Mechanical Science & Engineering department and Computational Science & Engineering program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign announce the addition of a Master of Engineering degree in Computational Engineering starting in the 2016-17 academic year.

This professional MEng program will prepare graduates of engineering and related disciplines to become leaders in the field of computation. The program allows students to earn the degree in one year (32 credit hours) and provides a broad interdisciplinary education in computation for a variety of career-track students. It is designed for students looking to enter the industry upon graduation.

The multidisciplinary curriculum, hands-on training workshops, and engineering leadership courses provided by this program are designed to equip graduates with diverse and highly marketable skills in demand by employers across various industry sectors.

Computation is widely considered the “third pillar” of science alongside theory and experiment. The heart of computational science engineering is to develop innovative ways of solving engineering and scientific problems using computation as a tool.

“CSE is very excited that we now have a degree program focusing on Computational Science and Engineering,” said Narayana Aluru, director of the CSE program.  “The new MEng degree provides excellent training and background in fundamental and practical aspects of computational engineering to solve real-world complex problems. This training should position our students for exciting careers after graduation.”
