Wayne Teng and Associates, founded by Teng and his wife Eleanor in 1959, is a consulting engineering and architectural firm that specializes in industrial facilities, renovation and rehabilitation projects, expressways, bridges, and construction management. Wayne Teng’s achievements are notable in two areas, namely, in organizing an effective in-house interdisciplinary team and in actively participating in the technical aspects of design. His teams of civil, mechanical, and electrical engineers and architects work closely together, thus minimizing the possibility of miscommunication of malfunction of any component of the project. He has developed new structural forms that area efficient and aesthetically meritorious, setting new standards in the design and construction of specialized facilities. His projects are noteworthy for their appearance, economy, and innovative features. A few of these projects are the maintenance facility, airport mail facility, and people mover at O’Hare International Airport, the Davis Street commuter station in Evanston, Illinois, and a new tollway and I-55 interchange. Greatly interested in engineering education and professional development, he has taught courses in structural design at the Illinois Institute of Technology and the University of Illinois at Chicago and authored several books and manuals. He has received the Award of Merit for Lighting Excellence, Chicago Lighting Institute Electric Association; Award of Merit, Consulting Engineers Council of Illinois; and Eminent Conceptor Award, Consulting Engineers Council of Illinois.
