To Dean Madden, industrial innovator and civic leader, for his creative and far-sighted leadership as a manufacturing engineer and for his untiring interest in and service to the University of Illinois.

Since graduating from UIUC, Dean Madden has been associated with the A. W. Cash Valve Manufacturing Corporation. He has made contributions to all aspects of the manufacturing process and, in 1970, was named chairman of the board. Recently he took innovative action to unite labor, engineering, and management to automate the factory. The automated assembly systems, driven by robots and computerized controls, are now in place. Madden’s leadership qualities were crucial to the success of this remarkable manufacturing engineering achievement, which restored the competitive edge of a factory in jeopardy.

His service to the university includes serving as a member of the University Of Illinois Board Of Trustees and as a member of eh Alumni Association Board of Directors and Executive Committee. He is also actively involved with the University of Illinois Foundation. He has been very active in public service in Decatur and has taken leadership roles at the local and state levels.
